South West Housing

New home for South West housing society

STAFF at one of the region's oldest housing societies are celebrating after moving into new premises in Worle, Weston-super-Mare .

The South Western Housing Society (SWHS) has increased its space considerably in the move, taking on the 2,400 sq ft space, next to Parkway Railway station, on a 10-year lease.

Established in 1948, the South Western Co-operative Housing Society (as it was formerly known) was formed to help those affected by the housing shortages after the Second World War. It currently manages 400 affordable homes across the region, and has donated several million pounds to local community groups through its South West Foundation

Andrew Hardwick, director of Bristol chartered surveyors, Williams Gunter Hardwick, represented SWHS in the property deal, whilst the landlord, J & W Wrench Retirement Benefit Fund, was represented by Jayne Rixon, Partner at Burston Cook.

SWHS chairman, Stan Rodliffe, said: "Arguably the need for affordable homes in the South West is greater now than at any time since World War II. We are committed to playing our part in meeting that need. Our move to this office enables us to be more efficient and professional in everything we do," he said.

The new office at 504 Worle Parkway will be the base for SWHS's 10 strong team, which includes the senior management team, housing and maintenance departments, and support staff.

Andrew Hardwick said: "Worle is becoming a popular out of town location for organisations, because of its good transport links with Bristol and the South West. The regeneration of RAF Locking is going to be a huge boost for Weston-super-Mare and Worle, encouraging many new businesses into the area in the future," said Andrew.

The South Western Housing Society was previously based at The Old Railway Station, Sea Mills Lane Bristol and The Grange, Durleigh Road , Bridgwater.
